Long Story
Philemon was born into the noble Lagrange family, one of several major noble houses in his country, and one of the houses with a direct claim on the throne, Philemon was raised as a prince with a small army of servants and private tutors, the whole deal. A quiet person by nature, he preferred the study of music tot he study of the sword, but he dutifully obeyed his parents and learned fencing, etiquette, and military protocol. Since he was not first in line for ascension to the throne, he was groomed to be a general.

For his thirty-seventh birthday, Philemon's parents surprised him with an arranged marriage to one of the typically bubbly, gossipy noble maidens who adorned the court. Philemon accepted the marriage and was kind enough to his wife, but had no interest in her. The only thing they shared was their marital bed, and it was not a loving affair.

A quiet person by nature, he disliked any attention and preferred to study quietly in the library rather than make public appearances and attend parties and balls. Nevertheless, he acquiesced to those tasks which were required of him, studied fencing and etiquette and courtly protocol. Since he was not first in line for ascension to the throne, he was groomed to be a general.

All in all, it was a privileged life, but an imprisoning one. there were many rules to follow and Philemon obediently did until, for his thirty-seventh birthday, his parents surprised him with an arranged marriage. The girl was nice, but rather spoiled, and wanted to do nothing more than sit around with her ridiculously thin friends and gossip and chatter. Suffice to say Philemon had absolutely no interest in any of it, and thus nothing in common with his wife besides the marital bed, which made both of them rather unhappy. Philemon started wishing he had some way of escape and began to study the Forbidden Subject: magic.
