Long Story
Landor's homeplanet, Tinas, was involved in a vast galactic war with several neighbors. Landor was a top starfighter squadron commander in the Tinatian Space Fleet. He was on a solo recon mission to an asteroid field, scouting out a suspected fuel refinery, when he ran into a gravitic mine field. He did his best to pilot away, but his fighter was damaged in the attempt and he was forced to make an emergency landing on a large asteroid. His radio remained intact and he was awaiting rescue but the Fleet was forced to return to Tinas when there was word of an attack on the planet, stranding Landor in the asteroid field. When he lost radio contact with his Fleet, he modified his radio to pick up general communications transmissions and learned that his planet had been obliterated by a new superweapon developed by the Ederans. Taking several minutes to determine it was in fact true, he then detonated the remainder of his starfighter's missiles in the barrel and died in the resultant explosion. It was after this death that he was recruited into the Fleet. He now holds the rank of Commodore in the Navy and is the section chief of the fighter corps.

As for Landor's home dimension, after the battlefield demonstration by the Ederans the other nine colonies surrendered, and the Ederan Empire was formed.
