Personality
To say Generys Anne is headstrong is an understatement. She has gone to great lengths to break free of the expectations made of a noblewoman from her time. She swears, she fights, she takes what she wants and leaves no prisoners alive. Her temper is wild, her hand quick to strike, and anyone evoking her ire should beware: Generys Anne scorned is beyond the fury of Hell itself.

She has few friends and distrusts most people, the sole exception being her brother. Nearly everyone in her young life hurt or betrayed her and such scars are difficult to overcome. She sees the worst in everyone around her except for Edward John, and in her mind there are no innocents.

To Generys Anne words are great weapons, but greater still the hand or the whip. She's a firm believer in corporal punishment, even when she's been on the receiving end. A word may leave a mark on a person's mind, but a blow can mark his body and leave an impression that stands the test of time.

In her many run-ins with various authorities, Generys has accrued numerous scars, the most famous being on her left breast. She brazonly displays it at the slightest provocation as a sign of the darkness of humanity, especially men. She uses the scar to make as many points as she possibly can. On the seas she is known as Generys Anen Scarbreast and her ship flies a flag of a woman's breast bearing the same scar.

One of the cardinal rules of Generys Anne is look but don't touch. She has no problem displaying nudity, but she does not tolerate anyone's hands on her but her brother's. She also doesn't allow her crew to walk around naked on duty; the right to not wear clothes on duty is reserved for officers.

Physical Characteristics
Height: 5' 4"
Weight/Build: Curvy, with strong arms and shoulders that throw her proportions off just a bit.
Hair: Long, wild, bushy dark brown, tied back but always frizzing out in a giant wreath behind her. She sometimes works braids in along her temples.
Eyes:
Skin: tanned and scarred
Face:
Attire: Generys Anne is known for crossdressing, as comfortable in the clothes of a man as that of a wench. She alternates between the two on an almost daily basis, freely mixing her wardrobe. Her female clothing is almost all outrageously puffy and wanton, with corsets that show off her breasts to a great degree. She liked big puffy bloomers, dresses that are all shredded at the bottom, fine breeches, things that lace up, fancy waistcoats and topcoats, and ridiculous feathered hats in brilliant colors.
Other: scar over her left breast, scars at her wrists and ankles from being shackled

HISTORY

Collective History:

Edward John Garmondsway was born the eldest son of a minor noble family and trained from a young age to assume the mantle of power and responsibility his position entailed. He was a studious child, inheriting the somber grief of his parents over the death of their first child a year before his birth, a pall from which the family never truly recovered. Growing up, Edward was very close to his younger sister Generys. The pair shared secrets and each became the other's support for the many times when their parents' affections were not available. They had a special bond that tended to exclude others their own age; they were seen to get on more readily with adults.

All that came to a halt when their mother, simply too upset to continue the charade of family any longer, had a quiet breakdown and Generys was sent to live with aunts to "ease her mother's suffering." This was not a sentiment that sat well with Generys, and she developed a rebellious streak. She was twelve and Edward fourteen at the time. The siblings continued to communicate by letter on a weekly basis, bitingly sharp and funny exchanges that they could share with no one else, as each had a tongue like a rapier and neither spared anyone in their lives.

When they were fifteen and thirteen, having only seen each other at holidays for a year and a half, Generys lost her virginity and stopped writing. Edward ran away to find her and discover what had happened to cause his sister's silence; the pair then ran off together for a week to work through the issue together. After that week, they made a pact to always talk to one another and rush to the rescue when it was needed. Both were punished for their actions, but neither regretted it.

As part of the family's history entailed military decoration, Edward's father pressed him into military service, insisting Edward join the Navy partly as punishment for running away with his sister that one week. Edward's father never really forgave him for shaming the family with that particular scandal and arrived at the conclusion that Generys was a crutch for Edward, thus Edward should be forced as far as possible from his sister, to the other side of the world if possible.

This did not work out quite as planned; Edward completed his training admirably despite displaying a weak stomach for seafaring and his ship was then assigned to harbor defense, keeping Edward a mere stone's throw from the shore. To Generys, the situation was no different than if Edward had stayed at home.

Even without his father's insistence, Edward would have joined the military within a year, because the year after he joined the American Revolutionary War broke out. Edward was staunchly patriotic and ready to fight and die for his country's colonialism. In fact, had his father not pressed Edward into service so vehemently, he might have separated Edward from Generys much sooner.

Despite the outbreak of the war, for the first year Edward's ship remained stationed at the harbor for defense. Deployment could not come soon enough; Edward's patriotism began to consume him. When the vessel he served on finally set sail, he was so enthusiastic he lost sight of the fact it meant leaving Generys.

The letters became sporadic, for while Edward still wrote weekly or more, sending those letters was difficult, and Generys's letters did not catch up to him regularly if at all. When he did receive them, they were frequently out of order and increasingly disturbing. Generys was not happy about "being left to fester and rot" on British soil while he was out "warmongering." Imaginably, their relationship deteriorated somewhat and Edward was the only person known to groan when receiving stacks of letters from home. He still read every single one and wrote back.

Then the French, Spanish, and Dutch entered the war on the side of the Americans. Edward's ship was heavily damaged in battle with the French and, while he survived, he was badly wounded and ended up in a landside hospital in the middle of a smallpox epidemic.

The minute Generys heard the news that Edward's ship had been gravely damaged in battle she grabbed all her aunt's jewelry, hocked it, and bought herself passage on a merchant ship, hiding a considerable small fortune in gems on her person. The ship she chose was a fast one, and while Edward had never been much of a sailor, Generys took to the sea like second nature. Her rebellious streak was still strong and she was not content to stay a passenger. Halfway across the Atlantic she had the sailors teaching her all the skills, and by the time they sighted American soil she could tie a line and hoist the sails, though the crew drew the line at her manning any cannons during engagements.

The moment she could, Generys left the ship and headed for land, using the fact she was a woman to garner aid from unsuspecting locals. She got her bearings, bought a horse, and set out riding.

It took her several weeks to work out where Edward actually was, and when she found him he was at the brink of death, sick and delirious. She lashed him to her horse and set out again, riding hard to the nearest port and catching a ride on the first Bermudan ship she could find in exchange for some of her remaining gems. By some miracle, they made it all the way to Bermuda, and Generys nursed Edward back to health.

And then, rather than return home, they used all their remaining wealth to get a ship and hire a crew and became privateers.

They struck hard and fast. Generys got to fire her cannons and Edward to exercise his patriotic desires and sink enemy ships. (He still got seasick.) They plundered enough to make back their original investment and then some, but so long as they had each other the wealth was better spent on keeping their ship in top shape, well supplied, and with a loyal crew. Then, as always happens eventually, their luck ran out. They were forced to limp to the nearest shore and hide.
